In March 2008 my Mother-in-law was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. We're pretty sure that she was a couple of years into it by the time the diagnosis was made. We moved Alice down here so that we could be close to her and help take care of her. Pam's desire was to allow her mother to live as independently as she could for as long as she could. Pam worked her butt off to make that happen but we knew that a day would come when Alice would have to move to Assisted Living.
That day was thrust upon us last Thursday. Alice fell. She called her sister, she couldn't remember our number; her sister called Pam but couldn't get through so she called Alice back and told her to call 9-1-1. So when the ambulance arrived Alice couldn't tell them how she got on the floor, how long she had been on the floor and she didn't remember calling 9-1-1.
They found no broken bones but there was a nasty bruise (I'm told) down one side. What they did find was that Alice was no longer able to live alone.
So Alice went from a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condominium with one resident on Thursday to a 1 room 1 bath apartment senior living facility with 57 residents on Saturday. Quite a shock to a normal brain let alone one being attacked by Alzheimer's. There are many reasons why this is best for Alice and for Pam. But best or not it is a hard transition for both of them.
Would you please pray for Alice and Pam as we walk through this new phase of a continued adventure?!?!?!?
God is good all the time!!
