I was digging through some old devotionals and ran across Investing 101 which I have pasted below. If you read nothing else, please read the quote from Wilbur Rees and consider your own investment.

Investing 101
Do you have any money in the stock market? Do you baby-sit your investment? You should see some of the guys that I work with. Every break they are in front of the TV glaring at the ‘ticker’ on one of the financial channels. Sighs of glee or disgust are heard as a particular stock update scrolls by and they grade each other’s investments. At times, you will see someone running to use the phone as they baby-sit their investment.
Do you have an investment in God? How much do you have invested?
"I would like to buy $3.00 worth of God, please. Not
enough to explode my soul or disturb my sleep, but just enough
to equal a cup of warm milk or a snooze.
I don’t want enough of Him to make me love a black man
or pick beets with a migrant. I want ecstasy, not transformation;
I want the warmth of the womb not a new birth. I want a pound of
the Eternal in a paper sack.
I would like to buy $3.00 worth of God, please. No, no, not
the flesh and blood one… He will keep me from my appointment
with the hair dresser and make me late for the cocktail party. He will
soil my linen and break my strand of matched pearls. I can’t put up
with the pundits from
nylon carpet with their muddy feet. My name isn’t Mary, you know!
I want no living, breathing Christ---but one I can keep in its
crib with a rubber band. That plastic one will do just fine."
-Wilbur Rees, quoted in Charles R. Swindoll, Improving Your Serve
So how much have you invested in God?
Children know all about grades and like it or not they are watching you.
How would your kids grade your investment in God??
The Holy Spirit through Peter gives us a few investment suggestions.
2 Peter 1:5-9 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. NIV
Prayer for the week: Father God, in the Name of Jesus, give me investment tips this week. Help me to deposit myself in You for an eternal return. Amen
