Year by year

It is interesting the way we track things. Our last few years have been marked by cancer. We don't really want to define the years by cancer but it sure has grabbed a lot of our attention. In 2007, Pam had cancer and major surgery in March to remove it all. In 2008, I had colon cancer and had major surgery in March to remove it (a foot of colon and surrounding tissue). In 2009, the colon cancer had moved into the liver and I had major surgery in March to remove most of my liver. The liver is an interesting organ that will regenerate if you don't remove too much. (In a rare two for one deal the surgeon also removed my gall bladder while he was at it.) So our last three years have been spent dealing with cancer for the majority of each year. And our last three months of March have been spent in the hospital having major surgeries. It has been quite the adventure and we have spent a fair amount of time considering whether or not there would be a tomorrow. This year's oncologist walked into the room, the day we were meeting him for the first time, and said, "well if we don't do anything you will die". That really wasn't news to either one of us but was just another occasion to consider whether or not there would be a tomorrow.
None of us really knows if we will have a tomorrow. But we are confident that there is a God who cares, who walks through these times with us and knows the number of our days.

God is good all the time!!

Acts 17:27-28 Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for "'In him we live and move and have our being", ESV

Hey Jim!
It is Amelia (Askren) Bellomy. I think about you often. When I was home this summer, I tried to make it by to see but was unsuccessful. I was disappointed to not get that opportunity. I know that my dad however did that chance. We were in different cars that day. I have been reading Anna's post on facebook, but decided to venture out to this blog. I just want to let you know that I pray for you and think about you often. I hope you enjoyed your granddaughter's birthday yesterday. My little one turns one on December 23rd. She hit 10 months yesterday. Man do they ever change your life in a good way. Take care!
