Today was "port day". We went to the hospital about 8:00 this morning and after a few delays Jim was taken back into surgery for insertion of a chemo port. He did very well and now he is ready for the big cure. He says his arm and shoulder are achy and he might take a pain pill. The cloudy gray weather helps to sleep off the anesthesia.
I am begining to feel like the hospital staff are old friends. They are all so friendly and willing to chat. Jim's prep nurse was indeed an old life group aquaintance, Carol Trithall. I believe her last name has changed, but it was reassuring to see a familiar face and catch up a bit. The surgical waiting room nurse came and sat with me and we shared cancer stories..Jim's, hers and mine. One of the thoughts we shared was how we felt sure that our cancer would not take our lives, and yet one day something will. I wish everyone would grasp that fact. Knowing that we will all one day die is both eerie and freeing. Get everything in order, make a will, write some instructions for your loved ones and make plans for eternity by getting to know God , THEN you can really live like never before!
Don't waste a day!
